Starters is CodeChef's regular (roughly weekly) contest series, structured as four parallel contests - Division 1 through Division 4 - running at the same time under one event umbrella. Which division you compete in is set by your current overall CodeChef rating, not by choice, and your rating only moves within your own division's contest, even though you can view and unofficially attempt problems from other divisions. Your current CodeChef rating automatically places you into Division 1, 2, 3, or 4 for that contest.

Your rating updates based on performance within your division only - results in other divisions' parallel contests don't affect it.
