What it is
Bharat Builds Tour is WeMakeDevs' recurring student hackathon series run in collaboration with AWS, structured as six separate city-stop hackathons rather than one single event. Each stop (such as the "First Commit" hackathon) has its own theme and prize structure, but all require an AWS Builder Center profile to verify student status and are open to any university student in India regardless of which city they study in. Teammates do not need to attend the same university or live in the same city.
Rounds
01. Registration via AWS Builder Center
Students create a WeMakeDevs account and an AWS Builder Center profile, which verifies student status for entry into any tour stop.
02. City-stop hackathon
Each of the six tour stops runs its own themed hackathon (online or in-person, depending on the stop) with its own submission window and prize structure.
03. Judging and prizes
Submissions are judged per stop; winning teams receive cash and AWS credits, and standout projects may be offered fast-track interviews with Amazon.
Who can enter
- University student in India, aged 18 or older
- A WeMakeDevs account and an AWS Builder Center profile (used to verify student status) are mandatory
- Solo participation or teams of up to 4 members
- Team members do not need to attend the same university or live in the same city
What you actually get
Cash prizes and AWS credits are awarded per city stop - for example, the First Commit hackathon offered ₹2 lakh cash plus $3,000 in AWS credits for first place, with smaller cash-and-credit prizes for runners-up. Select strong projects across the tour are also given fast-track interview opportunities with Amazon, though this is not offered to every participant.
Frequently asked questions
- Several - it's a six-city tour of separate hackathon stops running September through December 2026, each with its own theme, dates, and prize structure, rather than a single national event.
- No. Any university student in India can enter any stop, and teammates don't need to share a university or city - only a valid WeMakeDevs account and AWS Builder Center profile are required.
- Prizes are set per stop. The First Commit hackathon, for example, offered ₹2 lakh cash plus $3,000 in AWS credits for first place, with smaller cash-and-credit prizes for the second and third-place teams. Across the full tour, WeMakeDevs has publicised a combined prize pool of roughly ₹1 crore.
- Not guaranteed. Select strong projects get fast-track interview opportunities with Amazon, but this is offered to standout submissions, not every participant, and is an interview opportunity rather than a job offer.
