Cisco Ideathon is both an innovation programme and an early-career hiring route. It is restricted to eligible students at Cisco Networking Academy-affiliated institutions, so completing the academy prerequisites is part of preparation. Individuals first clear an MCQ-and-coding assessment, then receive a real-world problem, build a research-backed presentation in one week, and defend the approach during an interview. Selected finalists can enter a six-month Cisco internship with potential full-time pathways depending on the role.

  3. 03. One-week idea submission

    Candidates receive problem statements and get roughly one week to prepare a PowerPoint solution backed by research, logic, data, and a feasible implementation path.

    Cisco interviewers probe the deck, approach, innovation, feasibility, articulation, technical foundation, and fit for the relevant internship role.

How to prepare

Step 01

Clear the administrative filter first

Eligibility mistakes can end the process before technical evaluation.

  • Confirm academy affiliation, completed course records, CGPA, backlog status, graduation year, and six-month availability with the college coordinator.
  • Keep course certificates, transcript, government ID, resume, and consistent contact information ready.

Step 02

Prepare for Cisco-shaped fundamentals

Combine standard coding with networking and troubleshooting fluency.

  • Revise arrays, strings, hashing, sorting/search, recursion, trees/graphs, and complexity under a 90-minute mixed test.
  • Review OSI/TCP-IP, subnetting, switching/routing, DNS/DHCP, HTTP/TLS, network security, Linux basics, Python, APIs, and debugging from symptoms.

Step 03

Treat the deck as an interview artefact

Every claim in the one-week solution can become a follow-up question.

  • Use realistic assumptions and Cisco-relevant concerns such as availability, observability, interoperability, security, and supportability.
  • Prepare a two-minute overview and a 10-minute deep defence; be able to simplify the idea for a customer and deepen it for an engineer.

What you actually get

The central outcome is career access rather than a public cash-prize table: selected candidates may join a six-month Cisco internship and can be considered for role-specific full-time opportunities. Clearing Ideathon is not the only way to apply to Cisco, and an unsuccessful attempt does not block future applications.
